Sedona in late November and December is the version of the desert people do not expect. Days are usually sunny and in the 50s or low 60s, cool enough for a hike and warm enough for lunch outside. Nights drop into the 30s under some of the clearest skies of the year. The red rocks pick up a dusting of snow a few times each winter and the town lights up for the season, with the Festival of Lights at Tlaquepaque a few minutes from our Uptown homes.

Holiday weeks are the hardest dates of the year to find a home that holds a full family. Uptown Estate sleeps 25 across two neighboring Uptown homes under one booking. Our five-bedroom homes sleep 11 to 13 each, and every one has a full kitchen for the big meal, a private hot tub for after it, and a game room or swim spa to keep cousins occupied.

Pools and swim spas can be heated October through May as an add-on, so a Christmas swim is on the table. Hot tubs are available year-round (at Sedona Shangri-La, hot tub heating is a $50 per night add-on). Holiday dates book early; the live rates table below shows what is still open.

Holiday weeks book early in Sedona. Tlaquepaque holds its Festival of Lights each December, when the village is lit with luminarias. Days are often mild and sunny, and nights can drop below freezing, so plan cool mornings for hiking and warm evenings in.

Uptown Sedona is the walkable center of town along Highway 89A, where Oak Creek runs below the red rocks. Main Street has the shops, galleries, restaurants and tour offices, and Tlaquepaque Arts and Shopping Village sits just south of the roundabout at the Y. From the homes closest to Main Street, dinner is a walk; from the rest, it is a short drive.

Tip: The free Sedona Shuttle runs Thursday through Sunday, and daily in some peak periods, from park-and-ride lots to Cathedral Rock, Soldier Pass, Dry Creek Vista (for Devil's Bridge), Mescal and Little Horse. While it runs, the Cathedral Rock and Soldier Pass trailhead lots are closed to the public, so plan to ride it on those days. Check the current schedule before you go.

West Sedona runs along Highway 89A west of the Y, below Thunder Mountain (also called Capitol Butte) and Coffee Pot Rock. It is where locals shop, with the town's larger grocery stores, casual restaurants and coffee, and it is quieter than Uptown while sitting closer to the trailheads on the west side of town.

Tip: Many trailheads around Sedona require a Red Rock Pass (or an America the Beautiful pass) displayed in your car. Buy one online or at a trailhead kiosk before you park. During shuttle operating hours, including additional peak-period service, the Soldier Pass and Cathedral Rock lots are closed, so take the free Sedona Shuttle to those trails.

The Village of Oak Creek sits south of central Sedona on Highway 179, beside Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte. It has its own grocery store, restaurants and golf, and it is the first part of Sedona you reach on the drive up from Phoenix.

Getting here: Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is about 2 hours by car, and Flagstaff is about 45 minutes through Oak Creek Canyon. Sedona sits at about 4,350 feet. Drive times are approximate and run longer on busy weekend afternoons.
