Sedona has two halves. Uptown is the walkable historic center along 89A, with galleries, restaurants and the trolley stop. West Sedona is the residential stretch that runs west from there toward Dry Creek Road and Boynton Canyon: bigger lots, quieter streets, wider sky, and most of the town's everyday grocery and dining along the highway a few minutes away by car.

If your Sedona trip is about hiking in the morning and the hot tub at night, West Sedona is the side to stay on. The trailheads for Cathedral Rock, Thunder Mountain, Soldier Pass, Boynton Canyon and Fay Canyon are all on this side of town. Sedona Epic Dream puts a rooftop hot tub in front of Cathedral Rock. Sedona Shangri-La sits on a hillside with a 180-degree panorama and a full wellness setup: hot tub, infrared sauna and cold plunge.

What is the difference between West Sedona and Uptown?

Uptown is the compact historic center: walkable, lively, with shops and restaurants at the door. West Sedona is residential and spread out along Highway 89A west of the Y, with larger lots, quieter nights, darker skies and the closest access to the western trailheads. Our two West Sedona homes are hillside properties with wide views; our six Uptown homes are on the Uptown page.

Which trailheads are closest to West Sedona?

Cathedral Rock, Thunder Mountain, Soldier Pass, Boynton Canyon, Fay Canyon, Doe Mountain and Bear Mountain all start on the west side. Most are a five to fifteen minute drive from our West Sedona homes. Our best hikes guide ranks them.

Is West Sedona good for stargazing?

Yes, and generally better than Uptown. Sedona is an International Dark Sky Community town-wide, and the residential west side has fewer commercial lights. Both homes here have a hot tub for watching the sky.

Do I need a car in West Sedona?

Yes. West Sedona is spread along the highway and the homes are on residential hillsides. Restaurants, grocery and the trailheads are all a short drive. If you want to walk to dinner without a car, choose one of our Uptown homes instead.

Which West Sedona home is better for a big group?

Sedona Epic Dream sleeps 13 and adds a swim spa and game room, so it suits a full house. Sedona Shangri-La sleeps 11 and its separate guest house works well for a second couple or grandparents who want their own space. For groups above 13, see our large group rentals in Uptown.
